You say he's being reserved? I can think of two things and they work in tangent: 1) You're trying to probe too deeply too soon and 2) There's nothing much to probe.
That second one sounds hollow but it's not, it's just that you're mixing fire with water and the honesty and straightforwardness inherent in both signs work in completely different ways; Aries does things instinctually and positively, Scorp passionately and negatively.
I've got an Aries friend and she's great because when we talk we're both very upfront and on the same level. Romantically though, I could see a clashing of deeper interests, and both being on different levels However, astrology aside, if you like the guy go for it! You may well find your match and a challenge in him =)
