Odd this conversation came up. I got a phone call on my cell phone around 12:30 in the morning last Friday/Saturday that came up 'unavailable'. When I answered there was silence, then about after 30 seconds or so, there was ringing like I was the one calling kinda ringing, but no one picked up it just kept ringing. So, I tried calling it back to see if any vm or announcement would come but it said it was an invalid number. I'm not sure how blocked numbers work, and why it would ring like that back at me.

I don't give my cell phone number to many people, and never to companies i.e. credit cards etc. Plus I have it registered on "Do not call" list. So to have my number is cuz I gave it to you, and at that time of night/morning, what company would be calling anyway?

So what's the scoop on blocked numbers, or ideas about the "unavailable" and ringing? Anyone experience that before? Im not sure if it was the Scorp, BUT, I had commented weeks back to the Scorp in a text that me and my gf were gonna be out last weekend. I guess I wouldnt put it passed him to do something like that, especially if he thinks Im gonna hook up with someone. He don't want me, but he don't want anyone else to have me either. But, I don't wanna be thinking it's him if there could be a logical explanation.

Serena, so you've experienced the 'unavailable' and/or ringing too?

I wondered, but I wasnt sure why it would ring like that..again, kinda dumb to how that stuff kinda works. The silence was like a dead silence, so I didnt know that once I picked up it goes into a silent mode, or if he blocked it and hung up fast enough that it would ring like I was the one calling. And wasnt sure about the 'unavailable' if it was blocked...figured it would come up "restricted or blocked".

Interesting ;) lol
May I ask what the number is? You may private message me, if you wish.

I will do some digging...

Usually call blocking doesn't give you a number at all (it would just show up as "private"). Unavailable just means your phone company doesn't know who it is. Spoofing gives you a fake number.

To block your calls, dial *67 then the number you wish to call. ;)

Spoofing is... more complicated... and illegal.

Restricted / Blocked Calls:
- When someone has actively and intentionally "blocked" their number from you. This can happen if someone is calling from inside a protected telephone network (some government agencies restrict their numbers so people can't call them back arbitrarily or give out their various numbers.) This is also what happens when you *67 or have the phone company "block" your number from appearing on caller ID.

Unavailable Calls:
- When the caller is placing the call from somewhere that your phone company can't obtain the number. This can happen (depending on your network) for overseas calls, calls placed with a calling card, or some calls that are routed through switchboard systems (hospitals, university dorms, etc).

Source (can't believe Yahoo answers provided factual information for a change LOL)

it happened once to call someone and it came as unavailable..there are 2 reasons 1:he is travelling somewhere and the network takes it as unavailable due to big distance or so...2:he was blocking ur calls...but u bother so much about it?? :)
Akruba, you mean my number? If so, yeah, I can do that. Otherwise, if you mean the 'unavailable' number, when dialed it just said "invalid number" Serena, I don't have my "reply" to yours, but what do you mean that he was blocking my calls? Do you mean that since it came up "unavailable" then I wouldnt know it was him, but if I tried calling it back, he "blocked" my call so I wouldn't know it was him/so it wouldnt go into his vm? OR, do you mean that he was blocking my number so I cant ever call him/text him, and this is how it has to start the permanent block?

Am I bothered by it? No, not bothered, just curious considering who or why the number would be "unavailable" cuz if they have it, it should be only for the reason that I gave it to them. I'm pretty picky/choosy who gets my cell number, and when I have found out that someone who does have my number, but takes it upon themselves to give that number out (like a friend who thinks someone might be "nice" for me) I have gotten pretty mad. Land lines are one thing, but I dont want anyone and everyone having my cell..I don't wanna be "found" that easily lol
@WildChild I assumed by you "dialing the number back" that there was indeed a number. I'm slightly confused as to what you meant. You said it said "unavailable" - but if it didn't have a number as well, then how did you attempt to call it back?

So no, I don't need your number. Unless, uh, you wanna give it to me. ;) haha
ROTFLMAO! (literally). You're hilarious!

I think this was directed to me. Had to put my finger on the margin of your post, go back one page, and retrace the indention... but I'm pretty sure this was in response to my "caller ID" post lol. Stupid threaded conversations... so hard to follow...

Anyway.. thank you lol =)

Yep it was. I think this part of the thread may illude to why my ex Scorpio moon still calls (making his phone number Private). Perhaps it affects him in more ways than I was aware. We broke up 2 months ago and he still calls daily.
@ Akrabu OK, totally hate that the "Reply to This" disappears cuz it's been too many responses...I will complain about it everytime LOL

No, when I hit "send" to call the number back from my received calls, that's what I get is "invalid number" that's type written, or lack of better words, on the cell. Well, I did debate about givin ya my number I mean really, I only know ya through a computer screen bastad ;) lol

Back @ Akrabu since again, it's disappeared, I will give you a nod at "not being a manipulative bastard" I would, but then I would have to kill you, therefore the aforementioned number really would do you no good lol
@Rie It's for one of two reasons, or both: He wants hear your voice because he misses you, or he knows that you know it's him and wants you to think about him, too. For the latter, he just wants plausible deniability in case you continue to reject him.

@WildChild Yeah tell me about it, this is getting confusing as hell lol. Ohh, come on now... if I was being my manipulative bastard side, I would have let you believe I needed your number to help you. So, since I behaved for once, you may as well reward me with aforementioned number, don't you think? O:-) hahaha
